It is with immense sadness that we report to our Huka trapping community that Clyff Harrington has recently passed away following a long illness.

Mid-winter is an ideal time to take stock of how well your trap line is working and think about maintenance and placement of traps.

We have been notified that there is an intensive pest control (focused on possums) programme being undertaken on the town side of the Waikato River. The area covers from Spa Park down to Aratiatia.

Once you have read the health and safety recommendations could you please drop a quick note (if you have not done so already) to hukatrapping@biketaupo.org.nz to let us know and we can mark this off in our system.

A very successful evening workshop was held recently in which Cam Speedy shared many great tips about how to choose the best locations for your traps, methods of setting them and ideas about the ideal lures and baits to use. Read more for summaries of his advice, plus provide links to many other sources of information for those that wish to explore more or missed his talk.

This report has kindly been put together by Magaret Dickinson, who has been monitoring some of our successes with the use of trail cameras in the Waikato River Corridor area.
