Track Conditions Report – Craters Mountain Bike Park & Surrounding Trails

Craters Mountain Bike Park

Craters is riding very well at present. Ongoing maintenance of existing tracks continues, which will only improve the overall condition of the park. As is typical for winter, the trails are riding fantastic, with the wet weather firming up the pumice and making for excellent conditions.

The main focus for the crew remains on water and weed management and ensuring the sustainability of the current trail network.

We continue to experience issues with some riders ignoring signage and riding down roads marked “no bikes” and riding certain tracks backwards. This remains a concern for both rider safety and track preservation.

Huka Trails

The Huka Trails are in good condition and receiving extra maintenance in key areas. Some small realignments have also been completed to improve water management and reduce long-term maintenance requirements. These improvements are already making a noticeable difference to ride quality and trail durability.

Great Lake Trails (GLT)

The Great Lake Trails are in good shape. The maintenance crew is currently working along the Whakaipo Bay section, following on from the recent improvements to the Otaketake Loop. Riders should notice smoother lines and better drainage across these areas.

Fallen Trees & Trail Clearing

Across the wider trail network, a number of trees came down during winter storms. In most cases, these were cleared within a day or two once reported. A big thank you goes to everyone who takes the time to report fallen trees and other hazards — it helps us keep the network safe and rideable.

  • Kawakawa Loop: Rode today and the track is in excellent condition. Fallen trees have been cleared.

  • W2K: Will be checked on Thursday, but currently all indications are that the trail is in good condition.

  • K2K & W2K: Riders should be aware that both trails will be busy with runners on Saturday morning.
