The Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is New Zealand's Premier and Largest annual cycling occasion with both on and off-road event categories on offer.

From its humble beginnings in 1977 with just 26 participants, the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge has grown into NZ’s premier and largest cycling event, with around 3,000 riders from across New Zealand and over 20 countries across the globe taking part each year!

Held on the last Saturday of every November around the pristine and picturesque Lake Taupo.

Craters Classic start and finish is situated right on the doorstep of our mountain bike trail network, main Hub carpark, Wairakei Drive, Taupo.

The courses are designed to showcase some of the 80km of single track network available in Craters MTB Park.  This is also a great “Pre-Ride” if you are looking at taking part in The Huka Challenge – an iconic 'Must Do Ride' held annually in Taupo the last weekend of November.

The event is run by Bike Taupo and that means all profits are returned to track building and maintenance.

The Volcanic Epic is a unique four-day mountain bike stage race, held across 200km of New Zealand’s spectacular North Island geothermal region.

Riders compete in either the two or four-day events, across a range of age and specialty categories. Each day involves riding a different point-to-point course in Rotorua, Taupo and Tokoroa.

Compete across private and managed land usually closed to cyclists, and see sites of epic eruptions, navigate through epic steam clouds and past geysers heated by liquid rock not far below where your tread meets the trail.
