Taupo gets new shared walking/cycling path
<strong>26 November 2002</strong>
Taupo District Council has completed a new walkway in Taupo specially designed to accommodate walkers and cyclists.
The two metre wide 500 metre long ‘Kimberly Reserve shared path’ links Taharepa and Henry Hill Roads.

Council spokesperson for the cycle strategy working group Gerry Dance says the Kimberly reserve pathway is a popular walking and cycling route for the general public and students heading to and from school.
The need for more ‘dual purpose’ pathways was identified in a Taupo District Council Cycle Strategy that was developed last year by a council working group in consultation with the community.
Mr Dance says development of the walkway fits with council’s aim of providing safe off-road cycling links around Taupo and is in line with a ë’share with care’ slogan being promoted as part of the cycle strategy.
The objective of the strategy is to develop and enhance Taupo’s cycling facilities making it the most ‘cycle friendly’ town in the country.
