For those of you who are familiar with the MTB Tracks in Wairakei Forest, here is some detail of the courses being used for the Top Gear Cycles Craters Classic 2006 on 25th June.

The 20 km course covers some new ground and gets out to the northern edge of of the park. You will enjoy it, for sure.

20 km Fun Course (Loop 1)

Actual course length is 18.5 km.  Start on gravel road, through car park and then part of Corkscrew, Squirt, part of Q-Line and Powerline roads, Fast Eddie, part of Bumble Bee, last parts of Ferret and Tourist Trap, Lake Hire Link, Tankstand, part of Drone, Outback, remainder of Drone, Walters Wiggles, and back to car park to finish.

30 km Adventure Course (Loops 1 & 2)

Actual course length is 28.5 km. Do Loop 1 as above, and then continue: Lake Hire Link, Tankstand, Grinder, Switchback, Connect, Easy Uphill, 60 km Hill Road, Buzzard, Missing Link, short piece of Karapiti Road, Young Pines, Incline, Coaster, and back to car park to finish.

40 km Enduro Course (Loops 1, 2 & 3)

Actual course length is 38 km.  Do Loops 1 and 2 as above, and then continue: all of Corkscrew, all of Tourist Trap, all of Ferret, and back to car park to finish.

These are pumice tracks, great ride guaranteed regardless of the weather.  And if you haven't ridden them before, Drone and Outback are reasonably new tracks, nicely bedded in and good fun to ride.  Check them out.
