Clinton Avery dominated in the strongly contested Mid North Island Championships, Round 1 held in Wairakei Forest on Sunday 30 October 2005.

Mike Northcott lead the field for about the first 8 km, setting a fast pace, but couldn't hold off the challenge from Avery.  The first 3 riders were:
